इसी दिन भारत के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति और महान शिक्षाविद् डॉ। सर्वपल्ली राधा कृष्णन का जन्म हुआ था। उनके जन्मदिन को शिक्षक दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। राधा कृष्णन पूरी दुनिया को एक स्कूल मानते थे।

राधा कृष्णन ने कहा कि जब भी उन्हें कहीं से कुछ सीखने को मिले तो उसे अपने जीवन में ही उतार देना चाहिए। वह अपने छात्रों को पढ़ाने के दौरान उन्हें पढ़ाने से ज्यादा अपने बौद्धिक विकास पर ध्यान देते थे।

एक बार राधा कृष्णन के कुछ शिष्यों ने उनका जन्मदिन एक साथ मनाने का सोचा। जब वह उनसे अनुमति के लिए पहुंचा, तो राधा कृष्णन ने उससे कहा कि मुझे अपने जन्मदिन पर गर्व होगा कि इसे अलग से मनाने के बजाय शिक्षक दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाएगा। 

तब से, 5 सितंबर का दिन शिक्षक दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाने लगा। आपको बता दें, शिक्षक दिवस पहली बार 1962 में मनाया गया था।
